Overview

Sheet metal fabrication combines laser/punch cutting, press bending and welding to build enclosures, frames, brackets and panels. It is the backbone of most industrial enclosures and machinery covers.

When to choose this process

Use it for panel parts and structural sheet assemblies from 0.5 to ~10 mm in steel, stainless or aluminium.

Typical materials

Typical tolerances

Cut ±0.1 mm, bend ±0.2 mm / 0.5°, welded assembly ±1 mm/m.

Certifications to ask for

Frequently asked questions

DXF or STEP for sheet metal?

Both: a flat DXF for nesting plus a 3D STEP for bend simulation. Mark bend radii, grain direction and welds explicitly.

Can the same shop cut + bend + weld + paint?

Most mid-size shops handle cut, bend and TIG/MIG welding in-house; powder coating and zinc plating are typically subcontracted within their network.
